Great web site. Brings back old memories. I was on the USS Cocopa (ATF-101) from Sept 67 to Aug 68. Laying beach gear was and is the hardest work I ever did in my life. Didn't think I would ever go back to sea after the Cocopa, but I did spend the next 35 years with the Portland District Corps of Engineers in Hydrographic Surveys and Dredging Operations.

I love going there, especially that they have at least 50 privately restored tugs. The owners use them for pleasure craft.THANKS FOR THE TIP RDana@NAFTS.com

I was on the USS Keywadin ATA-213 Sept 1948 to Jan 1949. My first contact with ATA's was on 4-19-46 when on a minesweeper USS Prodject AM-278 which broke down in the China Sea for two days before ATA-181 and ATA-188 came out from Shanghai, China. I don't know which one of the two, but one towed us to Shanghai to a repair ship USS Delta AR-9 for repairs. I was later on ATA-213 aoperating out of Boston towing barges, ships, and decommissioned subs between east coast ports and thru the Cape Cod canal. my email address is wneumann@tampabay.rr.com

As an author, I'm working on an article about the loss of the Conestoga, AT-54. Has your organization, or any of your members, done anything on this event? If so, I'd like like to know what you've learned; it's a great story, but not too complimentary to the Navy. DAVID, ONLY WHATs AVAILABLE ON THE INTERNET.RDana@NAFTS.com David H.  I almost got a light stomach as I rode the waves again watching the short film at the front. One can almost feel the salt spray and smell the ocean watching that. It is amazing what a short ping does to the memory cells. Thanks, Tom, and whomever was the contributer of that piece.

All you Copper Collar Divers, and other wanna-bees, yesterday 02 November 2005 ground was broken at the Submarine Base, Groton, CT for a new 17 million dollar escape training tank. It is expected to be completed by 2008. Just another opportunity for a MDV and other divers to get some shore duty. Oh, the fond memories I have at that place. I was even a Duty DV when she burnt. Imagine losing 110 feet of water? I will try to keep you posted on the building. ________________________ Hank, Thanks for the info _______________________ Don't suck the bad air. Hank Baxter

I recently saw a photograph of a ship model built by Martin Bernhardt on the web page and am interested in contacting Mr. Bernhardt about the model. The ship is the USS Seneca, ATF-91. This ship is of special importance to me as I was christened aboard her in 1966 as a 6-month old "midshipman" during the period in which my father was her Commanding Officer. I have since followed in my father's footsteps and have served as a Naval Officer for 16 years now. Does anyone have a contact for Mr. Bernhardt? Please reply to wbissell@dewberry.com

John Kunzman. I served on the USS Conserver ARS39 from 1967-1968. On a WestPac Cruise, during a typoon, we rescued a frieghter off of Subic Bay. When we crossed her bow to throw a line, she rammed us and tipped the ship to 48%. Those of you who served on ARS's know at 45% they roll over. The friegters bow stuck to us and the next wave righted us. Lost a mike boat, two eels anchors and all our diving gear as a very large hole was into the ships hull at the diving locker. In Nam, we salveged a P3B in the Tonkin Gulf and a huey gun ship off the DMZ. Blew up a frieghter that ran aground on Wake Island at the end of the run way. Sunk her good in about 2000 feet of water. Had fun diving until I went to Nam with a IUWG team for 1.5 years in Quin Yhan
